ok the fuse that makes it all go away is fuse 15 it says stop lamp switch (logic):generic electronic module(GEM),powertrain control module(PCM),four wheel antilock brake system (4WABS)module,brake shift interlock, cluster and PCM keep alive memory.if this helps you help me great.
I would suspect a part of the abs system is causing the problem. Just to make sure, with the fuse out and turn the key on to make sure you still get dash lights. It controls power to the pcm so you might not even get dash lights with that one out. I don't know a lot about the abs system but that's probably where I would look. You could disconnect the individual components until the light goes out.
did what you said and i do get all the lights on the dash. and it will start. disconnected all leads to the alt. and the same thing happened with the fuse in. with the fuse out and alt re connected the battery indicator is real low compaired to when the fuse is in. also the #1 relay clicks (the white one in the cab) with the fuse out.
I would leave that fuse out overnight and make sure your batteries don't discharge. If that is your problem then just pull that fuse until you figure out what is going on. I'm not sure how it started with that fuse out. Maybe if I get bored I'll try mine. Good luck.........
The GEM is most likely causing all these problems. It controls many different things and causes some funky problems when it acts up. There are a few threads on it. Let me see if I can find one for you.
EDIT: The only thing I found while doing a quick search was that some trucks have had a leaky windshield and the water runs down onto the GEM or fuse block causing problems. I'd try looking for any signs of water under the drivers side and center section of the dash and go from there.
Yeah, it does sound like the GEM. I read on a post about the power lock issue.
The GEM is screwed to the back of the fuse panel under the dash.
It comes out in about 10 min with the right tools. Hardest part is unscrewing the bulkhead connectors from the fuse panel.
Yep, pretty good bet the GEM is shot. About the only single thing that can cause all your problems. It can also leave you stranded with dead batteries if not fixed.
