I noticed a while ago, that I have a crack on my Y pipe at the driver side flex section, but it was a small leak, and I really wasn't ready to change it.
This morning, I started my truck with the hood open, and a big cloud of smoke came from the area for a second. I went under, reach up, and I can feel that the leak is getting bigger. Well, of course it's getting bigger, now is like an inch long, maybe a little more. It is scary some, and I'm wondering if there is any place to order one, instead of go to the dealer. There was one on ebay a couple of weeks ago, but I missed it, and now there is none.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
I don't think there are any aftermarket parts available for that, but you might try a Navistar truck dealership and see if you can get it cheaper OR try a recycling yard that has a junk 6.0. If you want a new one try Y2Kfordparts. Ed usually has excellent prices on new ford parts.
some time ago I read on one of these sites where someone had a welding shop replace the factory flex section with an aftermarket piece. One that was braided SS that I believe was purchased from Summit Racing. Just used the factory pipe with a $40 new (and better) flex part. I do not know how much the driver side is but the pass side is $265 at my dealer.

Thank you guys for the replies.
I was actually thinking about replacing the flex section with a pipe, but because it's the expansion joint, I don't think it's a good idea. The pass side would be different, because there is 2 of them, but this idea is out.
Unfortunately in the area I live, I cant find a single 6.0 in the junkyard. I called the local dealr, they ask $276.56 for it, than i called Fuller Ford ( I think in Ohio ), their price is $230 + shipping.
Ed ! Could you get me back with your price please? I'm not trying to be cheap, but i think over $200 is a little pricey for a piece of Y pipe, but I don't really have time to pull it, and play with it.
( I might going to try to find a place to get the flex piece, and weld it in )
The truck is my DD, so I don't wanna end up riding my bicycle to work...
So thanks to Ed, I've got my new Y pipe in yesterday, and I'm looking forward to replace it this weekend.
I'm planning to wrap the manifolds, and the Y pipe with exhaust wrap. But honestly I don't know if it is good for our trucks or not.
Any suggestion would be appreciated!
Thanks Guys, and thank you Ed for the great service, and for the great price!!!

Any suggestions guys on the exhaust wrap on the manifolds and up pipes?
I'm not trying to be pushy, but the weekend is coming up, and I'm just not sure if I should do it, or not....
Thanks!
I would maybe give Jet-Hot a call. They coat exhaust parts in a ceramic finish. I had the headers on my GN done and if the part is new they will guaruntee it against rotting out. I am not sure how it would work on a flex pipe but may be worth a call. Sit down when you call they are pricey...but worth it IMHO. If I ever have to replace the manifolds on my truck I will have them coat them. If you call let me know how you make out.
well till i read you got it fixed i was gonna suggest if its just cracked you could have possibly gotten someone to weld the crack shut... but that would also have depended on how deteriorated the pipe actually was... an 04 shouldnt be too bad of shape...
I burst the flex joints 3 times in the last two years (two of them with the turbo brake) . The last time I put it back together I got rid of the egr flex joint and will have a more robust flex joints made for the other pipe with the left overs.
Thanks Guys for the replies.
Honestly, I didn't call Jet-Hot, because I'm moving in 3 weeks, so to replace the Y pipe is this weekend, or months from now, so I can't really wait.
Unfortunately the crack is on the actual Y pipes flex, so I can't weld a piece of pipe instead. ( I wish it's on the up pipe side, but )
The crack is on the actual flex wrinkle, so that is unrepairable.
I picked up a couple of wraps, and I hope some of you guys will chime in on wraps, otherwise I'll make a quick decision tomorrow morning. It's rated 2500*, so it should be OK, but I'm just a little-bit afraid of fire under the hood.
I do not know if it's a positive addition on our trucks, ( hot exhaust gas faster, quicker turbo spool, etc. ) but I can't see being a negative one - instead of the extreme high temp / fire...
Exhaust wrap is a good thing on high preformance cars with gas engines to keep the engine compartments cool, BUT, on a diesel it will raise the egt's to the turbo, and that is not good. Save yourself alot of work and potential turbo problems by not wrapping it.

Thank you so much for the info.
For a second, this idea came up in my mind, but I wasn't sure, so I asked.
Thank you, I'll just gonna return the wraps. Over $100 for them???!!!
