Hey guys, thanks for the warm wishes on the upcoming deployment. Although I don't think I can say exactly where I'm going, I will say it's in the southern Al Anbar province, so my chances of seeing snow will be pretty slim. The rifle I'm carrying is a Colt M4, with the front 4-sided rail mount system. I keep my broomstick w/retractable bipod on the bottom (duh LOL) the PEQ-15 laser sight on top, and the Surefire ($425 flashlight) w/tapeswitch on the right side. That leaves me one side with an actual handgaurd hehe. I'm sure the Marine Corp will find something else to put on that side to weigh us down some more.... That day I was wearing my Green digital Gortex over my Desert Digi cammies, and because they were soaked they looked wet. The yellow thing you military folks would know to be called a BFA- blank firing apparatus. Without that blocking the barrel down to about 1/16" you'd have to manually rack every round. I was also carrying the standard Barretta 92F on my right side, not my first choice for a back-up fire arm, but it's the only thing issued (except special forces) and you can't bring you own out with you.
Funny you say it snowed there. I have the Seabees drilling some test holes down there for us (Navy Geothermal Program Office) and they were calling me and telling me how cold it has been down there and how they were making snow angels...damn Navy boys! I frequent 29 Palms and I unfortunately was not down there this time when it snowed...damn! Anyhow, Mongo, I am sure I have seen you and your guys driving down the road on many occassion while we were doing work down there. I love seeing the convoys drive by with tanks, M113's, and 7tons all freakin loaded with weapons...that rocks. Anyhow, stay safe while in Iraq and come back in one piece. Semper Fi!
Hemi eater- you may have- we used route Topeka or Texas to get to range 220- the new MOUT town they're building (nothing top secret hehe) it was fun driving back in that slop- got many a wave of mud over the roof!

I'll have to watch for ya next time I am down there. Although, you may not be there too much longer. I heard that MOUT facility is amazing. Have not seen it in person yet, but I may get the chance to see it one day.
