AC pump paint?

AC pump paint?
Hi all. Nothing serious this time (I think).
Anyway, popped the hood today and I notice my AC pump's paint is coming off, heavily (flaking in large chunks). Noting I didn't have the AC on (and knowing the AC pump gets cold) I didn't know how this could have happened. Nothing else looks burnt.
I asked my dad what he thought. He blames the Armoral I use to make my hoses / plastics look like new. My question is, could Armoral cause paint to break away?
I'd like to re-paint the pump. What kind of paint should I use?

your dad is correct.
the armourall may look good to you but it is doing bad things to what it is on and the painted surfaces around them.
it will be very hard to get it completely off the metal surface ever again.
