service engine soon light

Can somebody tell me what they think is wrong? My motor runs fine until the service engine soon light comes on and then the motor starts running real rough like it it not running on all cyclinders. when the light goes off it starts running fine. Now the light is staying on and it is not going off and it is running bad.

sound like it could be a bad injector harness under the valve cover. Almost need to read the codes as these trucks have so many sensors. what is causing it to run rough is also a result of your engine light. ther are ways to check the harness but it would save time if you know someone with a superchips tuner or a scanner to get the codes

I agree with phil that the loose connector is the likely cause.

Here's a link to similar a problem, with pics of what to look for and how to check. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...=1#post6900483

Any questions just come back here and ask.

I forgot to mention that i have had a hypertech power programer in the truck for about 7 years. Could this be a problem with this?

Yes. Return the truck back to stock to rule that out first.

Scan the truck for codes, don't chase your tail. Where do you live? Perhaps a member is close.

service engine light

I just finished removing every thing under the hood to get to the valve covers and i did find that the connection was a little loose and i did the the trick with the quarter to make a tight connection. I drove the truck and the service engine light has not came on yet. I hope this fixes my problem. Thanks for all of the help.

I love it when a plan comes together... Kinda neat fixing it yourself and keeping the dealerships out of the picture. not to mention the money you save.. You might consider becoming a supporter .. Congrads...
