Hello experts. I just purchased a 62 F-100 drag truck for cheap. The truck ran about 6 months ago, but the owner said she was flooding out from the front carb, then stalled, never to run again. The carb is not what I am concerned about. I am worried about where the gas ended up.... In the oil pan..... For 6 months!!!! It stalled cause it ran out of gas!!! What should I do to this motor to start her up??? Replace the lower end? Rebuild? Just flush her out and run it? Thanks for any advice.
Change oil and filter and fix carb if it is in fact flooding over. Squirt some oil in each cylinder, then turn the motor over by hand with plugs out. Install plugs and start it.
Thanks for the advice. I will attack it after the holidays!!!! PS nice Torino!!??!
Not a Torino. Notice the cobras on the front fender and the hood scoop emblem and the blacked out grill. It's a 1969 Cobra with the 428CJ Ram Air, C-6 and 4.30 rearend. And it was quick and fast.
What telephone pole did it get wrapped around after you foolishly sold it?
None, I sold it for pretty big money, 6 times what I paid for it new, to a collector. He still has it. Keeps all his cars in a heated warehouse. The one I sold that got telephone poled was a hot rod '56 Chevy with a 409 dual 4s shoe horned into it. I told the guy it wasn't a sports car and didn't like to turn corners real well, or at all at speed. He was real stupid and real lucky. He only broke an arm and got the crap beat out of him when he got tossed out the open window.
Just about every old timer I have ever met that had a "hotrod" that is desirable today claims either they wrecked the car, or it was wrecked within a week of them selling it. One guy had his car wrecked at the end of the street by the buyer, after it was paid for.
What is sad, in 20+ years, my generation will be talking about mid 90s Hondas and VWs, talking about how fast they were etc etc, and how we were foolish to get rid of them......
I had a feeling it was not a Torino, kinda my way of asking what kind of cool car you had pictured!! To Bevis, I am raising four kids, and all of them love the traditional hot rods and muscle cars. Just guiding the next generation!!
My oldest heard a honda "gettin-on-it". He turned to me and said "hey dad, is that one of those slow cars trying to be fast?". I said "yup". I do try to keep them open minded, telling them that anything can be fast, but they are growing up in a house hold of a supercharged mustang and a big block F-100!! How did this end up talking about kids anyway??!!??
