I have been wanting to build an 51-56 ford truck. I have been looking for years for somthing to start with. I came across this truck. They guy wants 2000 for it and says other than 1 heavy rust spot the rest is light. I have NEVER seen one of these before. Anyone help me out? Cant find any infor on google about it. I know the pics arnt the best, but its what the guy sent to me. Im going to take some better ones this weekend, unless I go ahead and buy it.
Hello, and welcome.
I bet Jon aka "Irondragon79" from on here will be along shortly and others as well with good info on that truck, maybe what to look for on the cab stretch job. ? does it have a complete drivetrain, running etc. seems like the price may be a little on the high side, but depends on lots of things. location being one of them.
be sure to post more picturse and specifics as you get them.
oh check this link to IronDragon79 https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...p?userid=20036
Given the space between cab and rear fender that looks to be a 3/4 ton. I've paid that money for worse trucks before. The rarity would make it well worth that IMHO. Here's a pic of a half ton that was on ebay a while back. Looks like it's the same cab on a short wheelbase. Stu

Thought my ears were ringing. Its tough to tell from the pictures if that was a 50's extended cab conversion (build by various aftermarket companies, quite often for railroad companies and military) or if its a home built job like mine.
Although rusty, it would be worth saving since they aren't all that common to see. Honestly it looks a lot like mine, which is kinda cool.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, do you happen to have any interior pictures of the truck? I'm curious to see how the inside of the rear portion of the cab is finished out.
So far all the extended cab on the old trucks I've seen are of the Bonus Built series. It stands to reason that there must have been some in the '53 to '56 series but I have never seen one. I have no real knowledge of their origin but it seems that they were most likely built by third party after market companies like the people who do stretch limos.
2K is a pretty steep price but then if it really is as rust free as claimed, plus the fact that it is quite rare, I think I would be inclined to buy it.
My son also has a '53 like the two I have and he intends to make it a 4 door crew cab but he is waiting to see how many cast off body parts I have before he starts.
Oh, BTW 88F250, edit your profile so it shows where you are located. That wy others will know if you are close to them. After all, we need to know these things so we can come over and borrow tools and clean out your shop fridge. Seriously, welcome to the forum and as soon as you get that thing post some pictures.
just looked at the picture again, definitly looks like the bigger wheel opening for F-2 and up. the rear fender looks different? back portion looks cut off as well? is the roof line dented or warped? maybe its just the picture. keep us posted..
That's a cool truck. It looks to me like it was a crew cab built by, as several have said, an aftermarket body company. It doesn;t look like a recent custom job. The rust is too uniform. Dave, there were '53-'56 crew cabs built, I don't know how many and I have seen some. I have a book that advertises after body companies...
Is this truck a 4 wheel drive? The front end looks to rather high like a M-H conversion. Now it could be because their is no engine making the front end lighter, or some other reason. Could not see the hubs of the front wheels good enough on these pictures, tho.
OK, 1988f250 is my old name, I dont even have that truck anymore. I didnt feel like setting one up last night.
I found this truck a little outside Houston. The owner says it was a forest or railroad truck and he calls it a 1ton? If its a conversion its not a recent one looks like an oem job. Also, the owner says that the truck has one spot on it that needs repaired but the floor and frame is completly solid. Im probably going to drive out there this weekend and look at it and take some better pictures of it. It is all there too, except the engine. He also said there is a big PTO drivin winch on the fronts. If its in decent condition whats it worth?
It will be repowered with a diesel engine and be roded and probably 4wheel drive
Theres no telling, Im gonna go check it out this weekend. ABE, Yall getting much snow up there, our corporate office is in Bethlehem and they left the office early today.
