How good of a tire are these. HOw good do they last on road? How do they do in mud? How do they handle on road? Which is better the wrangler mtr or the bfg m/t? thanks
The Goodyear tire is a very serious off-road tire. I have a truck at work that was helpless in the mud. I put two of the mtr's on it and WOW, I had a whole new truck. They cannot replace 4WD but they are awesome. The tires life will be short, I will be happy to get 10,000 to 15,000 out of them. If you have rocks, expect them to get ate up much faster. They are a soft tire and you will see that it doesn't take much to start eating on them. For a four wheel drive I think they would be killer, nothing would stop them. I had the 2WD truck on the frame and they still dragged the truck out.
So if you drive on the road you will just destroy them. Also they have a very stiff sidewall. This causes them to be very rigid on bumps, which makes the truck dance alot. And I mean serious dancing. I've had our F150 almost completly sideways more than once on dry roads over 45 mph. The tire excels at soft conditions and slow speeds. At a fast clip on a dirt road you need to stay focused on your driving or you will lose it. Would I buy them again for this truck. I just might.
The BFG AT is in my opinon one of the finest all around tires for street and dirt.
if you want to make your own decision on the tire you can read about them in the may 2001 four wheeler mag. also the rest of the mag is pretty much dedicated to tires so read up any info you can absorb it will make all future purchases based less on opinion and more on full blown give it all its got break it if you can tests.

I have a set of MTR's on my F-150 4X4. I have seen virtually every tire made, used on offroad rigs. As far as in the mud, nothing short of a super swamper will beat 'em. They are just plain awesome. However, they do wear kind of quickly, they should last between 15,000 to 20,000 mi. The sidewalls are kind of stiff, but if you do any serious offroading, you will be glad they are. These tires are tough. You can drop them down to 10-15 psi. and still not have to worry about putting any holes in them, trust me I've done it. As far as the BFG's, take the MTR's, they are a much better tire.
