i have a 1999 F-250 5.4L leaking coolant (ALOT) under the intake. I pulled the intake and it looks like it might be coming from metal tube behind what looks like water pump. is this common. Any help would be great.
Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean anything.
Did it rot through?
There is a line that goes from the back of the water pump back to the back of the intake (I think). There is a rubber hose where it meets the back of the water pump (really the block itself). Maybe that broke?
after looking closer, found two more problems on top of leaking water pump outlet. pump outlet had two o-rings that were bad causing coolant to leak on top of engine block. also found one spark plug that wasnt even hand tight at rear drivers side. in the same area where the intake meats the head there was coolant a leak from a bad gasket. i assume the loose plug might have had something to do with the gasket leaking.
when i unbolted the lower intake from the upper intake, the insulated cover around the lower intake fell to peices. had to order that from ford.got new plugs installed (tightly this time). got new gasket set and o-rings for water pump outlet. now i'm waiting on Ford (imagine that). hopefully this will solve the problems.
got everthing back together . still leaks. its not head gasket or intake gaskets. anyone know what the wire is that runs up the center of the engine block and bolts into block under water pump line. if so could that maybe be laeking cooolant?
