Motor Swap

A friend of mine has a truck with a blown triton v8. He wants to put a regular v8 in(why I don't know)I wants to if it will fit.I've never changed any on the newer trucks so I'm not sure.Anyone know what will fit in place of a triton.
Thanks

We need to know the specs of the truck. Year, engine, and what size of engine you are wanting to put it and what year it is.

We should be able to help you out though

Sorry. It's a 1997 f150 4x4, auto, 4.6 triton v8.He wants to put a plain 4.6 motor in it.not a triton.I'm not sure where he got his info but they said they are less than 1/2 the price of a triton. He is buying a new crate motor.I would have just put in the triton.I have a 5.4 triton on my 97 f250 and i love it.

Triton is simply a name applied to the engines in these trucks. There are two different versions of the 4.6L engine, a Windsor and a Romeo. I am not completely sure of the differences so I won't even try to go there. This basic engine is used in many other applications across the Ford line up of vehicles. The main difference is the intake manifold on the trucks compared to the cars which gives the truck the low RPM torque that the truck needs. As long as the crate motor is for the truck it should bolt in. Good luck!

All you want to know on 4.6L's up to about '02:

Rebuilding the Ford 4.6L SOHC Engine, Doug Anderson, Engine Builder, April 2002

This is twice in a few days this info on 4.6L's not being the same because one is a modular or one is a triton, be curious where this stuff is being spouted.
