I have an 85 f250 w/ a 351w in it and I'm not quite sure about the year of the motor to make sure that it is the correct flywheel for it. I have a problem w/ starters and a balance issue that causes bolts to back out of the bellhousing causing it to twist and crack. I was told the flywheel might be the problem since they put in a reman crate engine in before I bought it. I found an eleven digit number on the flat spot by the starter but was told by the dealership that it was a casting number that couldn't help me. do any of you have any ideas or suggestions? Also after I dropped the tranny and transfer today I did find that the pilot bearing was shot. Could this be the culprit? Appreciate any and all suggestions.
The pilot bearing really doesn't do much unless the clutch pedal is pushed in. When the clutch is engaged, the clutch disc does a lot to support the input of the tranny.
All 351w flywheels should be the same. I don't know if a 302 flywheel will fit or not, but if it would fit, then that could be the problem. All 351w flywheels are 28oz balance, but some of the 302's were 50oz balance.
