My father has a 96 F350 completely stock, 310,000 miles owned since new.
What I have checked and already done:
Ok I have ohmed the glowplugs all are good, checked the fuel bowl its full, changed the fuel filter, changed the oil, no codes or ses light.
I have this problem when I start this for the first time everyday.
If I have the block heater pluged in or not, When the outside air temp falls below 30'F , the truck will start run for 3-10 seconds then DIE. It will not restart unless you get it inside a heated shop,or use starting fluid, and crank the **** out of it. BUT if the first time you start it for the day , as soon as it fires you floor it and rev it to about 2000 rpm for 15 secs it will stay running.
I know wrong forum but YOU guys know your $#it.
Any help...
I also posted the in the other forum for the older PSD's
Randy, How are you checking the glow plugs? I can't imagine going to 2000 rpm to have the engine stay running. At 30* the truck should start on its own if the glow plugs are working right. At 30* with the truck pluged in, it should start right up.
You are right, these guys know a lot about this stuff.
The OBS guys know their **** too. Check the oil level in the HPOP first thing in the morning before you try and start. Sounds to me like the HPOP is draining down overnight.
And stay away from the starting fluid, especially if the glow plugs are working properly.
I have ohmed them , and I also took a wire from the + of the battery and sparked it to te glow plug.
I did all this with the valve covers off. I did check the harness olso.
Does it put out a lot of white smoke at first start up indicating a GP prolem? The OBS trucks had issues with burnt pins in the UVCH connectors (but at least they stayed plugged in).
