My 94 F150 4x4 is shifting into all gears hard. I reset the computer and it goes ok for about 50 miles and then does it again. The shop told me that something is making it defaukt to high pressure. The tranny shops around here are kinda shady so i don't trust them they all just want to rebuild for 2K.
I don't know what the codes are that I assume are being stored, but does anyone have any thoughts on this. Could it be just a sensor? I don't notice any slipping just hard shifting.
there is a sensor on the drivers side, I forget the name..maybe manual lever shift position sensor. Anyway, it is a bunch of resistors, a voltage divider, that simply notifies the computer what gear u selected. Ford issued a tech service bulletin about that module and harness, and that part can cause erratic shifts. The harness and module were erratic because of moisture and corrosion, the new part was developed to overcome that.
BY ALL MEANS GET THE codes! They are important..The E4OD is pretty tough, but electronically controlled. Get to your very trusted mechanic, and don't do anything until u can get a good diagnosis, then ask us first b4 u OK a big repair.
If you learn to retrieve your codes you'll have a big advantage over the repair shops...all u need for a 94 is a paper clip and pencil and paper to get the codes from your dashboard check engine light. see fordfuelinjection.com and buy a haynes manual..the code retrieval procedure is in that book too.
