Injector replacement

This is my first post, and I would just like to say that I really appreciate how everyone on this site is so helpful. I love my truck but I can’t afford to always have Ford rape my pockets, especially at Christmas time.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Anyhow I have a 2000 7.3 and the #8 injector has failed. Or at least that’s what the service advisor believes. He said it could be the harness or the injector, but everything I read about tells me that it’s the injector. I decided to not have Ford do the work and I was going to get a remanufactured injector but I was wondering if I should replace all of the injectors? I have 170K on the truck and I don’t want to have to go in twice. I found the injectors from injectorwarehouse and they are 149.00 each.<o></o>

Your comments are appreciated.<o></o>

Mike, come on down to the 99-03 7.3 forums and post this question, you'll get more input there.
If you want to stick with stock injectors, the best option is a NEW Alliant injector- remans can be temperamental and don't always work right. Replacing just the bad injector is fine, as long as the rest check out okay, a couple of tests (cylinder contribution and buzz test) can help determine if the rest of them are good. Since I don't know much about this stuff I'll leave it at that... welcome to FTE and hopefully we'll have you back on the road soon!

Hey Adrian, could we get this moved to the 99-03 7.3 forum so this guy can get taken care of. Not saying it won't happen here but I followed a link in the 7.3 forum to here. I would've never seen it, luckily Chase has.

Mike, I concur with Chase. Replace the injector with a NEW Alliant injector. However, not the required long lead injector Ford used in the #8 cylinder.

Stick around.

Good point on the #8 long lead injector in #8 Robbie. You'd be better off replacing it with another AD injector instead of the AE or whatever the heck the long lead injector was.

For the money and to be honest I would get stage I injectors for just a tad more than the single injector. Check out DIY-injectors.com

Reguardless I would track down the problem. Remove Valve cover and inspect wiring harness both under VC and outside of it. Trace the wires looking for burnt or chaffing. Then verify the plug pins are in good shape. You can crank the truck at this time if you want and you can see the oil squirting out of each injector as it runs. If one is not squirting that is the culprit. Matter of fact you may want to do this anyway to verify that it actually is the #8 injector. And don't worry changing them is easy.

BTW Welcome to FTE
