Wow it's getting kind of slow around here isn't anyone working on their trucks anymore? lots of old threads being dug up. I'm wanting to get some backup lights for my slick what's the best way to go about this? Tired of almost getting run into by all the tunnel drivers around here and it's a little dark at the end of our road. We pay for lighting in our neighborhood but not anywhere near my driveway. Thanks for any ideas.

check out jcwhitney.com i got a set of kc backup lights from them they were on a relay from the stock back up lights, could also use a switch that was included, they were basicly flood lights mounted under the bumper.
You can do it on the cheap as well, napa carries a work light, its a rubber housing that holds a sealed beam, it mounts wherever you wana put it, with one stud, they are about 10-12 dollars a piece, make sure and ask for the ones with the halogen bulbs.
I've used em for work lights, backup lights etc, they work pretty well, and are cheap. I always liked to run mine off a switch so I could turn em on when I wanted to, and not have to put the truck in reverse.
Make sure to get a good power source, right off the battery with a fuse holder would be great. Use a relay, or just a GOOD grade INDUSTRIAL 20 or 30 amp switch will do..(Napa has em, ask) the lights don't draw much juice. If you elect to just run the lights through a switch, don't use one of those cheap ones that they keep up front, unless your just using it to fire a relay.
And as far as working on my truck I won't be doing much to it until spring, its to cold out. And my truck is to big to get in the garage and shut the door So Im just doing this Although I did fire it up yesterday. It sat for a week never getting out of the single digits...It was 4 degrees when I started it, She lit off under her own power and ran good, I was happy about that. I drove it around here for a couple hours in the snow, Its still a new toy for me.
I had left the snowblower up by the house when I decided that I NEEDED to move the truck, When I got back from screwing around my Wife asked me if I forgot what I was doing
Greg, LOL yea I saw your truck the other day, that's a sweet ride you'll get a lot of use out of it up there. We camp up at Red Bluff/French cabin creek every year. I love it up there. Next year we're taking our old vehics up for a nostalgia camping trip maybe we'll look you up. As for the lights I do want them on a separate switch too so I can use it externally it would be nice if it were detachable too. Have thought about some kind of spotlight to help with finding wood in the middle of the night. You all stay warm up there this winter it looks like we're getting a good blast tonight.

Backup lights were not available till 1967, these were incorporated into the taillamps on 1967/72 Styleside pickups and 1967/77 Bronco's.
If you want the factory look, find some housings and lenses from a 1967/72 pickup or 1967/77 Bronco, they'll fit right in.
If you have the anodized aluminum trim bezels on your present lamps, they'll fit the 1967 and later lamps.
1966 Bronco's didn't have backup lamps, and used the same taillamp lenses, bodies and trim rings as 1964/66 Styleside pickups did.
1967/77 Bronco's all have backup lamps, they continued to use the same bezels.

Backup lamps worked off the NSS on automatics.
On the 3 speeds, the switch was mounted on a bracket on the transmission.
If a 4 speed, the switch screwed into the shift tower.

Sorry i think my brain is frozen but what is the NSS and does this mean the wiring is already there for it?Or would i have to do some wiring to install?

Also, did don talk to you about those back up lights i have for a 56 ford? was just wondering if they would be of use to someone?
NSS = Neutral Safety Switch, but you'll have to use the 1967/77 switch (C7TZ7A247A), or rig up something else...a switch under the dash...because 1965/66's didn't have backup lights.
The 1967/77 Bronco's have a different neutral switch than the trucks used, but I dunno whether it will work on a truck or not.
I know this swap has been done before, as I've seen references to it here, but I dunno the members who have done it.
1956 Ford's use the same tailights as 1956 Thunderbirds.
They came either way: With or without backup lights.
This was also the case in 1955 & 1957. Same-o same-o, Ford & Bird.

Yea I was just wondering about this kit it has a Ford part # FO 499 if it was something that was still available or if i should shop it around. It is a full kit with wires, sockets chrome and lenses. Don wasn't sure about the lenses being plastic thought they would be glass.

I've never heard of, or seen a Ford part number of FO 499.
Backup lights for these cars were encompased into the taillamps.
What color is the box? Yellow, by chance?
Does the box appear to be a genuine Ford box? Look close...Does it say FORD or FOOE, FROD, FODR, or another variation of FORD on it?
The Ford backup light kit for 1956 Fairlanes, Country Sedans, Country Squires, and T-Birds was B6A-15499-A.
These have a (plastic) chrome piece made as part of the red lens.
The el cheapo Customs, Ranch Wagons and Mainliners used the same lenses as 1955's, (no chrome bezel), so the kit is B5A-15499-A.

I found the part number lower on the label it's B6A-18275-A and FDR-15499-A Auto Lamp Manufacturing Chcago. The instructions inside look like they're from 56 too.

If the box is marked Auto-Lamp Manufacturing Chicago, I doubt very much that it's a genuine Ford kit, regardless of the Ford part numbers.
Ford would not promote another companies name on their products.
Do the instructions have an Ford FD form number, and say Product of Ford Motor Company?
Are the lenses themselves marked Ford in script, or Glo-Brite, or have no markings at all?
What color is the box? All yellow? All White?
Is it a Red/White colored Ford or Red FoMoCo labeled box?
Does the FoMoCo box have symbols for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury & Edsel?
Or is it a white box with blue stripes?
If the kit is genuine Ford, it's worth $150.00 EZ.
