Block heater question

Hey every one where did you find the end of the cord for your block heater? And could someone post a pic of their block heater so I can make sure the little plug like thing with an orange cord coming off of it is the block heater.
Thanks for the help.

Mine was and still is hanging out right beside the front licence plate. Is the only 110v AC plug on the truck. Everything else is 12v DC.

Jacob, check just above where the oil filter screws on. That's where you'll see the cord going into the motor. Then just trace the wire toward the front of the vehicle to find the other end.

It might be zip tied to the frame inside where the tow hook is bolted to the frame. It's a black cord. Three prong house 110v plug.

Thanks for finding the pic Mark. The white thing at the bottom of the photo is the oil filter Jacob.

Thanks every one I found the plug and the truck is plugged in and getting nice and she will be nice and warm tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know how much those power inverters drain from batteries? Because I was thinking that maybe you could hook up a seperate battery to a power inverter and my truck could be plugged in and keeping warm when I am at school. Or is this plan a bit too over elaborate?

I think it will kill the extra battery in no time. How long are you in school? Can you come out at a break and start it for a few minutes during the day? FWIW, I can drive my truck to work, leave it sit out all day unplugged at 10-20 degree weather and it will start right up after 9 hours with no problems.

Bummer. Maybe a REAL LONG extension cord??? J/K.

I still think you will be OK as long as your batteries, battery cables and GP system is healthy. It takes a long time for these engine blocks to go stone cold like an overnight sitting.

I was thinking a second battery hooked to a power inverter and a timer so it will start warming up at 3:30pm which is 2 hours before I get out of practice.

You would have to find a HUGE power inverter to tackle that task. Also I feel the same way everybody else does, will kill a battery in about 30 minutes. I let mine sit one time last year for 8+ hours at about 0 degrees and it started. If you are that worried about it, I would look for a plug one the side of some building or a tree where they plug in x-mas lights.

As I just found out, make sure your glow plugs and the glow plug relay is working. Getting around 10* and sitting for over twelve hours makes for a hard time starting.
