BFG recommends a 6"-7" wide rim with that tire size, other manufacturers may vary. If you really want that 31-3/4 diameter and need to use the 8" rims, try a LT265/75-16.

That's a good idea, however I'm trying to stick with the 235's if possible. Plan is to put F-250 spec running gear on my F-150 with custom rims.
Would 265/85-16's rub the radius arms or fender wells?
265/85-16s are HUGE, about 33.7" dia. Depending on wheel offset, they'd probably rub somewhere. 265/75-16s are approximately the same diameter as your 235/85-16s about 31.7" If you've got 3/8" or more clearance with the 235s, the wider 265s should fit
That was my typo, I meant 75 for the aspect ratio! Until now I was unaware of the 265/75R16 as another option for the 8" rims, and I think I've decided on just that. Thanks for all the help!
