Ok, for a few weeks now my carburator has been kinda gunking up. I know these new fuels are bad for carbs because all the alcohol and ethanol in it. But i was wondering what can i use to "ungunk" the carburator. I've put a thing of STP Fuel Treatment. Is it worth while? or am i just wasting my time and couple of bucks? It seemed like it worked. But my truck when i get up to about 45 and slightly press the gas and the truck will start shaking slightly. I Don't know what i should do???????
What does the gunk look like? A friend of mine was having continuous "crap in the carb" issues, turned out to be a rusted fuel tank. His gunk was a fine tan/white powder. He fixed it by adding more fuel filters; one before and after the fuel pump. I would have changed the tank but his fix worked for him...
oh crap well its kinda that white fine powder also. and i dont have the time or any other transportation to have the time to rebuild the carb. i looking for a quick fix to patch it till i have the time in the spring and a second vehicle.
I like those clear plastic filters for problems your talking about. That way you can see when they are getting clogged up. When you have time make the repair. I have a Holley 4160 that I bought new in 2003 & it sits a lot & I have never had trouble caused by today's gas. I throw in some StaBil in the tanks. I run Acetone in my fuel. But I never let my truck sit without the tanks being FULL. In winter that is the killer of gas, gas tanks, & carbs.
Or take the carb off real quick and clean it right.
Yes and No on the seafoam. It may help, but the carb isn't really what it's for. And its darn expensive now, at $9/bottle
If you do try a bottle of Seafoam. Poor half the can in w/ the engine running, then kill the engine and poor the other half in the carb. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
love sea foam.i had the same problem and had to replace the tank.my filters would plug up every 2 tanks of fuel.my tank was rusty.tan coloured fine dust.when i finaly replaced tank, had to rebuild carb, some of that crap got by the filter.sea foam will clean the varnish but not the sediment that could be plugging your passages. good luck
