Just figured Id tell everyone my parents 04 Excursion rolled 100,000 today. Never had a single issue with it either. Its a 5.4 XLT model. Ill post pics soon.
It will need timing chains/guides soon as its rattling bad but minor stuff.
Congrads on the milestone. Off topic and don't mean to hijack, but I'm curious to know what that timing chain rattle sounds like, do you think you can describe it to me? I'm asking because my Excursion with the 5.4 has what I believe to be the timing chain rattling, it happens when the engine is cold at start up and once I put it in gear it gets worse and it goes away rather quickly.
I wish it was as simple as that. I know it is not the plugs; the noise has been on going for almost two years now and nothing has come about of it. If it was the plugs they surely would have blown already and besides one of my plugs has already blown so I've made sure it won't happen again.
My thoughts from doing a little research here on the board is that the noise is either the timing chains, some type of exhaust leak, or I've seen that the transmission inspection plate can come loose and cause a rattle similar to mine.
