Aux Fuel Solenoid Valve
#16
Hey! Rig it any way it'll work! My dad drove a car from Kentucky to Michigan with a lawn chair for the front seat, a 5 gallon gas can on the floor next to him serving as the fuel tank, a string tied to the carb throttle linkage because the gas pedal was gone, and no brakes but the E-brake! And it was a 4-speed manual! Talk about some serious skill working a clutch when you're gassing the motor with a string tied around your fist!

Yeah the pump will pull from both tanks if hooked together. If both tanks are the same capacity they should both run out at the same time. But in the event that one is bigger than the other, it should run fine with one tank empty. I have yet to try though.
The only downside I can see is a little bit of inaccuracy at the fuel gauge - because when you hit the switch to change tanks, the tank senders change also to show how much you have in the tank you're switched too. I'd just keep your switch set on the primary tank, or the largest if one's bigger.

There are three more out there. This valve only fits 1975/77's.
I only informed the OP of the Ford dealer source, because I figured the price would be a heck of a lot less than the MSRP of $102.00 it listed for originally.
Once parts go obsolete, the dealer has one year to return them.
If they don't....they are STUCK with them.
D5TZ9189A was updated to D5TZ9189B in 1978, so it's been obsolete for 30 years!
D5TZ9189A =
Dennis Carpenter in Concord NC has TWO = 704-786-8139.
McDonald Obsolete Parts in Rockport IN has ONE = 812-359-4965.
Carpenter's valves are genuine Ford originals, not repro's.
While Carpenter is well known for his reproductions, he also has one of the largest inventories of FoMoCo obsolete parts on the planet.
Green Sales has the largest inventory, but does not have any of these valves.
btw: From past experience, if there's only one obsolete part available, I email or P/M the person that needs it.
If I list the info here, someone might beat him to it. That happened with a 292 radiator hose, I listed the info, but by the time the fellow called on it...it was His-Tor-E.
