if its a 4x4 and has alot of miles on it, or the rotor has never been off, have fun. mine we're seized on BAD. i ended up having to take it to the shop as i didn't have adequate jacks/tools/torch to feel safe removing it myself.
i suggest heat, a big *** pry bar, and a good sized sledge
Thank you, I will give it one more try when wheather gets a little warmer. Truck is a 2001 F150, 4x4, 5.4 eng. with 85k, extend cab. Excellant shape, again thanks for the help.
PB blaster sprayed on the hub and let it soak for about 1/2hour, then a Big hammer will knock them off. Replace them since they are cheap. I also sanded the hub after I got them off and applies a little anti-seize so hopfully the new ones won't stick next time.
Ive heard of the PB blaster, but havent found it anywhere....I have however found some stuff called "Mouse Milk" at the local Aircraft parts place. This stuff is great, and will loosen the most rusted/seized up stuff you have.
I used it frequently on our airplane, and works wonders.....
For a rust breaker there's this old school looking stuff that my parents get from a Ford Plant, it's called Aero-Kroil, it comes in an orange can and I swear it's like Jesus working miracles on rusty stuff.
Go to hardware store and buy a 2 inch 5/8” bolt and two nuts for the bolt. Remove the caliper and put the 5/8’” bolt in the upper caliper mounting bracket with the nuts on both sides of the caliper mounting bracket hole. Tighten the bolt and rotate rotor and tighten bolt again. It will pop off – watch your toes.
What glock says is your best bet. My additonal advice is to let soak with penetrating oil overnight and then press off. Press tight, release, rotate 1/4 turn and keep doing this at least two full turns increasing the torque a bit more each time. However don't kill it or you may bend to calpier mount. A tap with a sledge when the press is on will also help. Use a Grade 8 bolt so the threads won't strip.
Another method; remove the tire, spray PB blaster liberally around front and back of where the rotor meets the hub, put the tire back on and torque the lug nuts to specified torque, then back them all off about 1/2 turn, then move the truck forward and backward about 4-5 feet, the weight of the truck pushing slightly outward on the rotor at a slight angle will break the rust free, you will hear a really loud pop. Remove the tire and resoak the rotor, it should come straight off. This is for a 4x4, not a 4x2.
