-4 degrees Celcius here, and with the windchill it feels like -14. My Nissan's in the carport and the doors are frozen shut every morning...locks and the doors themselves - I have to get my 5 year old daughter to crawl in the back hatch and unlock them from the inside, then I give a great heave outside to break the seal.
The Aero is sitting out unprotected, with the cold wind beating on it. It is off the road this winter to save us some $$$'s...just tried to unlock the door - did it without a problem
+1 on putting silicone spray on the door seals. Works wonders in the cold. Except when the whole car has a quarter inch of ice glazed all over it
We had an ice storm in Chicago and my whole car had ice sealing it closed, had to break the ice off of the doors just to get in.
It's 8f below here in illinois, and i did a radiator job on daughters Contour. Wind chill is like 25 below. Us Ford owners are TOUGH, unlike the folks who buy 'other' brands, they call a mechanic!
I did the silicone treatment (thanks 96) to the ZX doors, as they were frozen last week.
Works great, opened up easy this morning.
And, lastly, you will be proud to know that obama is going to hold a global warming seminar/confab when he gets back from Hawaii.
What do you guys do if the keyhole is frozen? I mean the little flap on the hole was actually frozen shut with ice. I got my propane torch and CAREFULLY applied enough heat to melt the ice. Then I found I couldn't turn the key because the barrel was also frozen. I tried heating the key a little before inserting, and leaving it in the slot to try to warm up the barrel. Did this a couple times until the barrel finally turned. Shooting it full of Water-Displacing-40 did not help the next day. Fond memories of living in Detroit...
I wonder how many of our Congressional representatives are enjoying themselves in sunnier climes?
Personally I don't know what the problem is. It was 72 degrees here in the Pan Handle of Florida today (bad joke I know). In the event you start to hate me realize this. Earlier in this thread I saw where some fella's were talking about having experiences in Minot North Dakota. Well, I have earned by badge there too. I was stationed there with my family from July of 1992 to March of 1997. I took went to South Korea (Osan Air Force Base) in Spring of 96 and then came back in 1997 so the Fam actually stayed longer than myself. Back then I was always pheasant hunting in 30 below weather and loving it. Before my intiation into the Ford Aerostar world I had a 1985 Dodge 600 ("K" car) remember those. Not 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, but that little 2.2 litre would bust through any snow drift and never left me stranded.
I'm getting orders this spring and could find myself either back in Minot by the end of this year or out west in Tuscon (Davis Mothan A.F.B.) or Almagordo N.M. stationed at Holloman A.F.B. In either case I'll eventually be living in a few years in Truth or Consequenses N.M. Fitting I'd say. I'll be in paridise looking for an old Ford or Plymouth roadster to restore. NO ROAD SALT THATS FOR ME!--Bye Boz
Frozen lock = annoying problem.
Hairdryer can work fairly well, once water is dried from the lock , apply engine storage spray or Fogging oil into the lock ; works pretty good. Also drip some of this down the lock actuating pin, it will drain down to the pivot joint which can get frozen.
Don't wash the car the night before a freeze up.
I do live in warmer climates now, and I'd have to say I do not miss those Michigan winters. I don't have to deal with frozen lock barrels any more. Without road salts and extreme cold, cars and their parts last a lot longer here in SoCal than in Detroit.
is is like a heath ore prairie. Hot summer. Winter is not so cold usually but we have about 3-6 winter weeks with really low temperatures... and windy often.
This summer we had up to 46 dgr C! We had up to 55 onece .... as I remember 3 years ago.... but I did not feel bad.. acclimatisation.
