ALERT!!

I have a 1990 F250HD4x4 w/ Dana50 front TTB.
I was under it checking everything out tonight and noticed something awfully sickening. Both the passenger and drive side TTB brackets to the engine crossmember had Extremely loose bolt some had backed out half the length and one bolt was sheered off and the bracket sitting down 1/2 and inch, AND I JUST GOT BACK FROM A TRIP TO COLORADO.
This is VERY scary to think what would have happened if they would have let go.
This truck has never been abused and I have been driving the truck since it was new although just have owned it for 4 months now.
Also the motor mount bolts were it goes onto the block/ one on the passenger side was missing.
All this seems very strange too me and am considering going to Ford and talking this over with them because if there ever was a safety recall this WOULD be it for sure.

Also because I cannot get the bolt out of the front ttb arm because the other one is missing can someone please tell me if they know what bolts were used looks like they were just 2 or 21/2 inches long but what size were they and what thread also are they grade 8??

thanks,
Joel Thomas

I have and 89 F-250 and I used to have to tighten mine up every 4 months or so, that got old so i tightened everything up the tack welded the nuts to the bolts . Haven't had to mess with it since.

ALERT!!

I can top that... 80 F-250 TTB...tore it down to replace front springs and do some preventative maintence and found the holes in brackets sloppy.
On closer inspection found crossmember CRACKED 3/4 of the way around the bracket.
Found rolled 83 with 460 and other goodies (and good crossmember and brackets albiet loose) swapped my sheetmetal to it, replaced bushings, ball joints etc. removed any good parts and junked the frame (the frame was found to have other problems as well not a keeper).
Oh well have a 351M tranny transfer case etc.. for spare parts and the truck I really wanted in the first place :-)
If you have a ford F-250 or 350 with a TTB I highly recommend you scrape off the crud and carefully inspect the brackets, crossmember, axle pivot bushing, ball joints, etc. at least once a year, the life you save might just well be yours.

As always just my $.02 worth.

Brian

Has this ever been a problem with any of the other trucks, like F150 or Ranger? Anyone have any ideas on why this would happen?
