Its beautiful. Loved Lotus since I missed getting a 69 Europa with a built Renault (?) 4cyl in the mid/late 70s. Wound up with a TR GT6 basket case instead.
It's a Toyota 275 HP VVTI V6, sadly Lotus no longer builds their own engines.
I didn't think they ever did? (Hence the aforementioned Reault)

Had a running buddy many years ago who played with Zs. Had a 240s he constantly up graded with JY engines, 260, then 280 till he came to a fork in the road one night & didn't make either... Lived, but quit playing with Zs.

I'd give a nut for a Exige S260. 2000lbs, 250 HP Go-Cart for the street!
My GT6 (whats left after 2& 1/2 cars) is dismantled & back in boxes & in an old chicken house. I have flights of fancy where unlimited buget builds a Mass-Air 3.8, T-5, 8.8 IRS & put a T-Bird or Vortec blower on it. Then go hunt Cobra Clones & go to Ford shows.
Its about as close as "exotic" as I'll ever come...
They did build their own engines, in a sense. They bought bare blocks, did their own machining. Then bought ignitions, covers, ect off the shelf. Same with trannies. The Lotus Esprit's came with the last of their in house engines.
There's a guy down in Tennesee that used to have a great Z forum. He has a built 240 FI, Big Turbo, IC, Fuel
10.3- 1/4
There's also some vids of a dude out in Cali rippin down the hwy @ 80 MPH, hit's 3rd gear and the car goes sideways. Another vid of it strapped to the Dyno. They have 3 dudes in the back, and the thing still spins on the drums.
"I'm really iching for another lightweight sports car." A friend has a Super 7...that's about as light a street legal car as you're going to find. What a blast to drive. I used to have a Morgan...similar handling & performance.
The Elite was(IS) the Lotus I always wanted. Whoever said they wanted an Elise, like the above poster points out, better make sure you can fit in one first....I don't think I could without a human shoehorn.
By the way, why do the Lotus models all begin with an "E"?
@ 6'-0" 180 Lbs. I think I could handle the Elise.
If the bottom doesn't fall out of the economy, and We can refi our mortgage at these historic lows. It might just happen next summer!
I dunno about owning an Elite. It was Colin Chapmans first road car. 1100 Lbs/75 HP It was totally unreliable. Most owners got so frustrated with them that they just left them where they layed, when the suspension broke thru the mounts
