Unknown Code
Working on my buddies truck tonight, 99 F250 with 7.3. It's running very rough, his Snap On scanner is showing an unknown code. It's showing a code P0 541 and a P0 273. His Snap On scanner does not register either code. He did an injector test and it was showing a fault on # 6 injector also. Any help from anybody on here would be a great help. I'm a 6.0 guy and not normally here on 7.3.

P0541 will set if the Air Intake Heater has been removed. Also open/ short circuit, if still installed.
P0273 is related to Cyl #5 Injector circuit low; Can be caused by a harness short to ground.

Mueckster; Thanks for the quick reply, I'm not sure if that Air Intake Heater circuit is a major problem. The # 5 injector circuit could be a problem, his pop test was detecting a problem with # 6 also.

The AIH is more of an emssion type thing. It doesn't cause any starting or drivability issues. I would check the wiring at the valve covers and the under VC harnesses for loose or chafed wiring. Also check for a loose UVCH connection to the VC gasket.

Any type of scanner has to have different type of programming to read powerstroke codes. There are readers out there that come with this programming but snap on is not one of them... The wrong kind of scanner can send you in the wrong direction.
