I've been living a lie!!

Man i feel like such an idiot, i've had my truck over a year now and have always thought it had 4.10 gears...........found out today by looking at the build code on the door the 41 stands for 3.73 non limited slip.........I would highly recommend checking things like that out you never can go by stupid salesmen or hearsay......i think back about telling people "yea i like my 5.4 its got 4.10 gears so it pulls real good" hahah what an idiot......oh well live and learn...

A friend of mine got a new Silverado a few years ago, and was always bragging that it had the 6.0 V-8. Until one day I was with him when he poped the hood and it was the 4.8 (or whatever) V-8 they have.

my 03 V10 was fine with the 3.73's when i had 33" tires..

but moving up to 35"s has def. taken the truck out of its optimal power range..i'd like to do a gear swap, but i doubt i ever will..

i just use more gas pdeal now, hahaaha...

Well! I'm a little confused! According to what this thread says... I'm running a 3.73 non- limited slip rear end! I read from paperwork that Rockindoc sent to me that I'm running 4.30 non-limited slip rear end. I got up under the Excursion ( not that hard to do!) and read the tag on the rear end and it says 4.10. I'll read the door tag again. Oh yeah! Bigken sent me an Oasis report that say that I have the 3.73 non limited slip rear axel. The letters following the information are EGJAB. I'm going with that! I think...2 for, 2 against...

OK,,,so now browntown3,,,,what do you think of the 5.4? If in fact you do have 3:73's in the rear,,,,thinking all along you had 4:10's,,and that it "pulls real Good",,,,,that in it self should impress you alot !

I have not driven a SuperDuty with the 5.4 engine,,always overlooked them,,,meanwhile,,,what your saying,,reading between the lines,,Kind of Impress's me about the 5.4,,and I have heard,,that the 5.4 with a 6-speed behind it is a stout truck !

PS I usually look at the tag on one of the rearend cover bolts also for the gear ratio !

I hate to tell you this, but you're lying when you say you're living a lie.

Code 41 is a 4.10 open differential.

AXLE CODES:

37- 3.73

3L- 3.73 LS

41- 4.10

4N- 4.10 LS

43- 4.30

4L- 4.30 LS

Don't confuse the axle code in the VIN (41 would be an F-350 open dif) with the door sticker code (41 would be a 4.10 open dif). They are 2 different codes.

Wow this is getting confusing! Thank goodness mine was listed on the window sticker 3:73 limited slip under the options section. 3:73 is still a good gear ratio, don't sweat it.
