Hello, I have a 1953 F600 and I am in need of some help! It has a 6 cylinder engine ( I think they call it the L head big six). First, I could use a new exhaust manifold, mine is cracked in half. I have looked all over the internet and cannot find one anywhere. Second, I need new wheel studs and rims. Nobody will touch the split rims that I have now. The rims are 5 lug and the wheel studs are 3/4 in. Again no luck finding these parts.Your help/advice is appreciated. Thank you.
Welcome and I have a few extra wheels for 56F600. I would ask if you manifold could be brazed or welded? Have you taken it to machine shop?
I love my 223 in my 53 and I also have f500 and f600s. welcoem and someone else will be along to help you more....Bill
First, let me add my welcome. Glad to have another big truck guy.
For parts of all kinds on your truck, the best source I know of is Job Lot in Queens, NY. Their web site is JobLot Automotive. Manifolds are gonna be difficult, though. You are probably already looking in yards and on ebay. They are probably your better sources unless one of the other guys has other magical answers.
Wheel studs on your truck are the same as used on the 48-52 big models. The books say they are 3/4" x 16 tpi, both right and left hand thread for the respective sides of the truck, and 2.25" long. Part numbers are 51-1107 for right hand thread and 51-1108 for left hand. Hopefully these are standard enough that Job Lot will have them.
If not, something I had described to me this past week on my truck's front axle was that the restorer doing my work, Chuck's Trucks, couldn't find the correct studs for my oddball front hubs. So Chuck had to adapt my hubs to accept modern studs. Worst comes to worst, you might have to do something similar.
On your wheels, you've got the 5 lug x 8" circle bolt pattern, and probably have the split rims that are today called "widow makers". No reputable shop with touch them for good reason. That leaves you needing to find either good used "lock ring" 20" rims like hopefully Walford can set you up with, or going for more modern tubeless 19.5s or 22.5s. Rather than me or others rattling on about your wheel options, I'd suggest doing a forum search here using the words "widow maker", "split rim", or "Firestone RH-5°". There was also a long thread a while back about "Group Purchase of Big Truck Wheels". The group purchase idea was scrapped, but you'll read good discussion about wheels there and on other similar threads. Hope some of this helps. Stu
If you have a Les Schwab in your area you might give them a call. They got rebuilt lock-ring 20" BUDDs for me.
I had to buy 6 of them with 2 TOYO radials for the front and recapped radials for the back. (It wasn't cheep!!)
Pics in my gallery.
You absolutely want to dump those "widow makers".....you might even want to let the air out of them as soon as you know you won't be using them When they get rusty they can let go at any time......not a big deal for the back but if a front wheel lets go the ring could kill someone and if you were driving down the road you could lose a front tire and lose control....
i'm still eyeballin' that other 55 for a couple of trinkets that is just about rusted in half ... i do beleive it's exhaust manifold is in one peice . even if i dont buy it i can ask price and pass it on if you are interested . ps yep its a six popper , and where are ya at ??? im in a cornfeild in the middle of illinois called springfield , you close ? if ya are i'll just tell ya where the truck is , as to be honest im gonna probably just get the instrument{s} panel and be done with it .

I didn't need studs since mine were in good condition. I did replace all the lugnuts front & back, L&R though.
I didn't have any problem buying lug nuts locally. They had a big bin full of them....they must be pretty standard.
I think they were about a buck a-piece from the same place that relined the brakes, turned the drums, sold me all the wheel cyls and exchanged the brake booster for a rebuilt one.
I bought stainless lug nut covers for my 56F600 AT Flying J. truck stops--I believe most truck stop stores will have them.....Bigwin told me to do it--and they look awesome with the wheels painted nice.
Bigwin does come up with some good ideas once in a while....I wonder if HT(Rick) got his crossmember installed on his f600 yet? Does it look good? Bill
The 1 1/2" lug nut looks great with those big truck covers.
Bigfordfreak,
Those 5 lug rims that you need are gold plated when and if you can find them especially if they are 22.5 tubeless If I had a set of 6 they would run about $600.00 pluss shipping.
But I dont have any at the moment.

Yes, I would be interested in a price on that exhaust manifold, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Nah!
It's too cold to even go out there in the shop and look at it!!
I don't have the cab off the frame yet......front clip is off though.
by next summer I should have insulation in there though....then the furnace I have will actually make it nice to work in there!!
ok doke . i'm going over to talk to him tommorrow if all goes as planned { like that'll happen LOL !!!! } . the truck is just so bad i dont wanna mess with it , and i'll buy the lil' stuff i want and let him deal with the remains . if he isnt wanting much when i go and i plan on grabbing the gauge{s} panel i'll take a real good look again at the manifold and take it off if he sells it reasonable . i already snarfed a few things .......................... i grabbed the six popper radiator shroud , so i thought as someone on here was looking for one , but when i got home it was the same as the one on the v-8 55 i just parted .
