Servicing u-joints, 04 up
has anyone replaced a u joint on these models? I know their staked in place from the factory, but today i found out there is some kind of kit out there, and this afternoon, i was looking at this and sure enough, there are ring grooves machined in ea side of the yokes, obviously for a kit that uses the old style retainer clips. I got to do some work on a d-shaft, and am going to put greasable joints in there while i have it out. any comments appreciated. thanks paul 05 scab

Have heard others on this site say there's a special kit or tool to replace them. I took my truck in under warranty for clicking noise at the rear. Was diagnosed as bad rear u-joint. They replaced front and rear u-joints as well as the drive shaft as a complete assembly.

the snap ring grooves are machined in there to aid in replacement when the time comes....replacement units obviously us rings to keep them in place...I wouldn't go out of my way to replace the stock units till they're actually bad...i've seen stock ujoints go well over 100,000 miles and good top quility ones go bad in 40,000 miles...
