I just got a free 1993 F150 and the problems wont stop. Biggest problem im having is im getting a high idle and missing shift points. When i start it up, it is fine untill i get about 3 miles down the road and then the check engine light goes off, transmission seems to drop down a gear and wont shift and idle is at about 2500 in park and in gear 1600. My shift points only seem to be at 30 and 60. when i unplug the IAC it idles back down to about 900 but kinda wants to die at stop lights and still not shifting right. Looked at vacuum lines but didn't find any broke.
At the start of this project i had the same problem replaced the temp sensor, plugs and wires and put on a use IAC and everything worked great for about 1 week. Could dirty or old coolant cause the temp sensor to go bad? Truck was sitting for 2 years before i got it. Cleaned both IAC and doesnt help either.
Please help i get my license back in one week and cant wait to drive this beast!
Sounds like you need to clean the IAC as a beginning point, then off to replacing vaccuum lines one at a time. You have the dreaded high idle that takes time to fix. But your tranny is a wholely different issue.
