I am on the verge of ordering an E-350 wagon, and I am looking for insight regarding fuel economy and performance with the V8 and V10 engines. I have five young children, and so I intend for this beast to serve as the "family car" for many years. Most of the driving will be on the highway (on the way to the orphanage or military school, you understand), and I will pull a light pop-up camper. My other consideration is giving my wife the ability to avoid being run flat as she merges onto the expressway, but not so much power that she cannot manage. Any thoughts?
I own a 1998 Ford E350 Super Club Wagon (15 passenger). It's got the Triton V10 and I love it!!!! We use it to get our family, 8 kids, around. My wife drives it daily. I got her an Aerostar to use when she doesn't have all the kids, but she still takes the big van most of the time. She feels very safe in it and actually appreciates the power it has. It's a very heavy vehicle, even without the kids and their stuff. She drives it in town and on the expressways when going cross-town. It gets about 12mpg overall average. Worse when I'm driving. I like to hot-rod. I put the SuperChip in it because I pull a 31 foot camper and felt the added 10% power would be put to use. From reading the other posts on what the guys with the 5.4 Triton are getting for gas mileage, they aren't much better off. A friend of mine has an E250 with the 5.4 and wishes he'd gone V10. These vans weigh over 6,000 pounds. Anyway, that's more than my 2 cents worth. But like I said, I love the van.
