This is just sorta one of those 'for my own curiosity' things. I've noticed my truck does not run very warm AT ALL. It just barely reaches the bottom of the little 'normal operating temperature' area on the gauge. I was just wondering where all y'alls trucks run? anybody else have a really cold running truck like mine?
SD, Those gauges and lights were called idiot lights because they didn't work very well. I doubt that your truck is actually running cold, but normal for that gauge. I think mine barely hits 170º and that is where it stays unless I'm in stop and go traffic with a lot of stop and the temps in the 100º outside. I usually can shift to neutral and speed the engine up a little and lower the temps when that happens.
It wouldn't hurt to check the actual temperature in case the thermostat is stuck open. If the top radiator hose is getting good and hot you are probably ok. There is a temperature range where they run best which I belive is a little above 212 deg F. I don,t trust any of the temp gauges/lights. I check mine occasionally with an infared temp gun to compare with the guage.
my stock temp gauge was actually dependable. never did me wrong. swapped out the fitting and installed a fancy gauge and it only works half the time, i smack it and it dont work any better.
