Hey guys i have a old worn out 351W with about 500,000 miles on it. It has no power what so ever. it gets 6-10mpg and I think its time to rebuild it. How much does it cost to rebuild a 351W? I dont need a really high HP motor just something for a every day driver and light offroading here and there. Also I went to muffler masters the other day and asked if they could run true duals on my truck, they said that it cant be done that a y pipe is needed. Has anyone run true duals on there truck? Thanks.
How long is a rope? That's the sort of question you are asking when you ask how much it will cost to rebuild an engine.
There is just no way to answer that question until it is torn apart and everything is inspected and measured.
That said, the way you describe it, this one is TRULY worn out. If you are planning on driving it in and out of a shop without doing anything yourself and you want a stock rebuild, depending upon where you're located, I think you are looking at about $3,000 and up.
If you want to buy a short block or long block and do the work yourself, you might get by for about $1,500. If you're an experienced motor builder it will still cost at least that, but you could come out with a better result.
Who ever told you you can't run duals on that truck must be on crack, That one is easy to change to dual exhaust. With that many miles on that engine you would need to tear it down first to see if anything is reusable before figuring out cost to rebuild, might be better off looking in salvage yards, ebay, craigslist, etc for another engine, with way less miles
Ya, sounds like new engine time. Try one of those places that sells rebuilds for cheap, like maybe your used core and $600. For the exhaust on my `90 F-150 I got headers that I welded smog tubes on , and made a T to split the air injection from the smog pump, and welded a bung for the O2 sensor.Works goood!
