4'' of lift usually requires a drop pitman arm, but it kinda depends on the lift and the truck... what kind of lift is it? and are you talking about the 89 F150 thats in your sig?

if you have a dual shock setup you can use only one, as far as I know ... and you can use any shock you want as long as it has the necessary leingth and travel. If you have the specs on the lift, eg: lift hight in inched front and back then you can go to any knowledgable parts store or off road supply and they should be able to hook you up. Or sombody more knowledgable than me might comment on how to get the shocks you need ... hope that helps...

is it just a bolt on type deal or do u have to do a bunch of stuf....how about like a bigger coilsping up front and say blocks in the back? if so i know 350 uses a 4 inch block would i just need a 4 inch lift coil for the front? who has them?

What type of connection is this? Are you buying a partial lift kit or a complete kit? Is this new or one that has been removed?
I am concerned because you are asking about coil springs and this is the main component in a lift kit for this vehicle.
You will need some steering corrections and this will include more than just a drop pitman arm.
To answer your shock question, you will simply take a measurement from the mounting points while the vehicle is at rest (after it is lifted of course). Your off rad shop will determine the necessary body length and provide you with the appropriate shock.
If this kit is actually an off the shelf kit, then all manufacturers shocks will have a part number for a lift of the appropriate size. IE a shock will be specifically for a 4" lift. This will be the easy part.

Tell us more about this lift kit you are buying. Kits should come with almost all of the hardware necessary to complete a project, or it would not really be a "kit".
Blocks, add-a-leafs, and all spring lifts are all options for the rear. This will depend entirely on what you have purchased.

The lift kit you posted a link too is relatively easy to install if you have a good understanding of steering and suspension as well as basic hand and power tools... If you have to ask if it's easy and tell us that you don't have any experience than it is definitely not some thing you want to try your hand at...
With the right tools and experience a person should be able to install this in a day easy... But the emphasis is on the tools! Allot of time (but not always) this kind of work requires grinders, air impact gun's and or cutting torches and can be a bit of a PITA if you don't have the tools.
I would very much recommend that you buy the kit complete with the drop pitman arm (required as far as I'm concerned) and the shocks (as the price don't seem too bad) And if you want to install it your self you'll need some one there with ya who has done this kind of work themselves... or ask the local 4x4 shops what they'll install it for... it might not be that much

EDIT: buy a kit!!! trying to piece a lift kit together will cost you more than buying a complete one

I've been running a single shock setup on my bronco since I lifted it without a problem. If you lift it and then decide you want more dampening you can try a stiffer shock or add another of the same. I know for the 78-79 series bronco graveyard sells shocks as "4inch lift shock, front front" or "front rear" for the dual shocks, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out which one you need there.

For lifting the rear - SKY Manufacturing shackle flip is much better than using a block. Look in the tech thread for my little write up on installing it - its really simple.

What size tires are you running and is thing going to be a daily driver? If you plan on going bigger than 35-37s at some point and run it hard you might be money ahead saving up for a solid axle swap - d44 or d60 depending on how "hardcore" you want to go. I think there's also a thread in the tech folder for doing a solid axle swap on the 80-96 trucks.

good luck.

I didnt read through all of this. So if someone allready mentioned this sorry. If your running two shocks and it is to stiff of a ride. You can take one off and drill into it drain it out, and then reinstall it. This way you will have the ride of a single shock setup and the look of two.

I want dual shocks on mine, because of the plow.

I got a 4" rough country from rockymountainsusp.com, for a little over $500 shipped to maine. It took me 3 days to install in the driveway with a jack and stands. I also replaced the pivot bushings with polyurethane from summitracing.com, and that was a huge PITA, but I'm glad I did. I also had to drill a couple holes in the cross member for the drop brackets, and on some years the O.E. brackets are riveted and need to be cut, but mine were bolted.

Hmmm.....brakelines and driveshafts were fine (shortbed), and I fit 35x12.5 but spaced the front bumper out a half inch or so.

here's the kit ( I also got the poly pivot and radius arm bushings)

w/o lift...

and with..

If I had to do another one it could be done in a day I'm sure, but with no prior lift experience (ttb, anyway) I think it went well. I'm gonna get 6 " springs in a year or 2 and lift it 6", since the R.C. brackets have different holes for 4 or 6".
