Ok, so I added a K&N FIPK to my truck about 4 months ago. With that and the Edge programmer I was very happy with the combo. I just did my oil change and it was 20K between fuel filters so I did those too. Well this is where my problem started. If I am into the throttle and let of immediately I get a choo choo sound from the driver side of the engine. It doesnt happen all the time but some times and it doesnt matter if the programmer is at stock or level 5. I can only assume its excess air coming back out of the turbo but dont we have waste gates for this? Im confused and dont want to cause any issues but at the same time Im left wondering why it is doing this only after the fuel filters.
Not sure on the Choo choo sound but1 bit of advice.....get rid of that K&N as soon as possible....they are crap on a diesel.
Oiled filters let too much air and residue and dusting into the turbo. A cheap paper is even better than a K&N on a diesel.
There is no waste gate on the 6.0L engine. When you build up a lot of boost and let off the accelerator quickly the extra pressure flows backwards out through the turbo and air intake. This makes a strange sound that is often referred to as the "Turbo Fart" in the 6.0L forum. It is much more pronounced when you are running an aftermarket air filter.
As far as the filter itself go down to the 6.0L forum and read up a bit. There is a lot of info down there on why not to run aftermarket filters. I personally have the Airraid intake on my truck and I am happy with it, but I watch it pretty closely to make sure I'm not letting too much dirt/debris through the filter.
My truck does that as well. I only noticed it after I started running a tuner, but yes that is a turbo fart. You can pretty well make it fart on command by romping down on the throttle and when the boost starts to build up quick let off and it will do it. Boost has nowhere to go, so it back flows. I have an Airaid in my truck now, but it would do it with the stock filter in as well. Got the Banks Big Hoss Bundle on the way, so we will see how bad it gets with all the new plumbing. Lol.
