New Injectors

Im told I need new injectors in 2000 dually 7.3, 140K miles, as well harness and injector module. New PCM this year took care of unpredictable stalling for a while.
Are ONLINE injectors reliable? Ive seen inexpensive for $130 and a very scary core return policy, and International dealer sells locally new at $275.
Big difference in price there. Local Ford dealer wants over $5000 for job.
I dont want to pay for HIS next winter vacation, but have some left over for mine. Clarity over this issue is appreciated. Thanks!!

I would probly bet you don't need anything you listed or the PCM you already got

Welcome to FTE. If you get "online" injectors from one of our site sponsors, you will get quality injectors. New Alliant Power injectors are the way to go if you want to replace with stock. You may think of an injector upgrade, if doing the whole set.
Kinda like Ray said. You need to be sure you really need all this before jumping into it. That sounds like too many things to be wrong at once.

Welcome to FTE. Before I dropped money on 8 new injectors, 2 new harnesses, and a new IDM, I'd find someone who can tell you exactly what the problem is. It sounds to me like someone is just trying to throw parts to fix a problem they can't figure out.

Tell us a little more about how you came to the conclusion you need to spend all that money.

Thanks for the reply!! I appreciate the advice. Symptoms initially were unpredictable stalling at any speed, including hiway. Simply let up on pedal and truck restarted since I have 6spd. International dealer locally did computer diagnostic that said PCM was bad. Replaced PCM and took care of problem for a while. Stalling started again so went to Ford dealer this time and said 3rd injector was gone. Replaced one (mistake?) injector and ran OK for a while again. Now is not only stalling but got noticeable skip as well. MPG dropped average from 17 to about 12. Im told by many owners/mechanic that the injectors GO bad in 7.3 after 100K. My road mechanic was former International guy.

SO, no-one really seems to know the exact problem. Im wondering if there's a really good Powerstroke guy here in New England? Another truck, International
dump 4700 w/ 444E also needs them because will not start below 40 degrees. I had Blackstone labs do oil analysis and Iron content in oil suggested to them
the spray pattern was poor. Same injectors? I use only Stanadyne additive religiously, all year, because it takes out water at the filter, rather than dispersing it. I do maintenance religiously, like Rotella w/ filters 4 - 5000 miles, fuel filters, air, etc.

Has the CPS been replaced? Doesn't always set some type of codes and can cause a skip.

What kind of dash lights do you get flashing when the truck acts up?

There's nothing wrong with replacing just one injector if that's the only one that's bad. I've got over 275k on my stock injectors so don't replace yours just because they've gone over 100k miles.

A noticeable skip could be a bad injector, or injector wire, or it could be a CPS issue as Roland mentioned. There may also be a wiring issue between the IDM and the valve covers.

I'd try and find someone who can do an injector buzz test and cylinder contribution test to see what that tells you. Have you had the CPS replaced under recall from Ford? The CPS they are using in the recall has been known to cause contribution faults on cylinders 3 & 8 so keep that in mind when you do the testing.

That was going to be my question. I had the diesel tech at the local Ford dealership here tell me that he's hooked trucks up to diagnostics before and getting info that injectors were bad, only to replace them and still getting the same issues and info on the scanner. Ended up being the CPS all along and had nothing to do with under the valve covers.

Thanks. I would also add there is no permanent light error code on the dash, although the "techs" got codes when they checked. Obviously they arent
the right one.

I just had mine buzz tested today and number 8 failed the rest were fine. I have noticed a bit more blue smoke on startup here as of recently.

#8 failing a buzz test is bad Justin. Did it fail the buzz test, or the contribution test? If it was the buzz test, did it just sound weak, or was there no sound at all? No buzz either means a bad wire or a dead injector.

IT was weak Chris but you could hear it. It showed on the scanner there was a problem but no percentages or nothing like that he didn't have that setting.

Did you try to buzz it several times in a row to see if it got louder? That would tell you if it's just a sticking poppet that will start working when the engine warms up. What did you use to do the buzz test? I would have thought if it could do a buzz test, it would also be able to read rotational velocity (per delta) readings, or at least do a contribution test.

Either way, it sounds like it's time for a new injector unless you want to give the much debated Hot Shot's Secret a try. You might PM Jeremy and see if he ever got his refund.
