It's a bolt in, though it would be a lot of work. If you can find a 4x4 cheap with a rusted out body or blown motor, then that would be the cost of doing it, although you might want to throw in a tranny rebuild while you are it, if it's a automatic.
No. Frontends from a f150 from 1980 to 1996 will fit. A few years after your truck they went to a electronic speedo, so peek under the donor truck to make sure it has a speedo cable coming out of the transfer case.
You could even use parts from a Bronco. The only rub with the Bronco, and any other truck that is a different wheel base, is you will have to get driveshafts made, or go to the junkyard and find a truck with the same wheel base and tranny setup to get the driveshafts. Getting driveshafts made is pretty easy though, and in the old days was about $100.00. I haven't priced getting one made recently, but they can take even a short Bronco shaft and put a new tube in the middle to make it the right length.
What engine do you have? The donor needs to have an engine from the same family for an easy swap.
So find a donor truck with a 300, 302 or 351w engine. You will have to keep your flywheel or flexplate that goes with your engine, but the bellhousing will bolt in from any of those other engines.
