I have a 78 F250 2wd 400/C6 standard cab with 6200 lb rating. My question is about the difference between the rear leaf springs between my truck and a heavy duty rated F250 of that era. I have a 76 heavy duty F250 donor and the only difference in the rear springs appears to be a second set of assist springs. Is this correct?
I am pulling the front end steering/suspension/braking systems from the 76, but I am just wondering about the rear leaf springs since mine seem to be in better condition.
Also, the brackets that attach to the frame that the assist leaf springs make contact with are rivetted to the frame. What is the best way to remove these brackets without a torch? I figure an air chisel or grinder, but do not have either of these so want to know what I need to get.
To remove brackets riveted to the frame I usually grind the head down flush with the bracket or the backside of the frame, then hit them out with a hammer and punch.
