how do I tell what rear end I have?

85 F150, 3-sp. auto, orig. 300/6, 3.08 ratio.

do you count the bolts on the rear cover or what?

Thanks,
Meaux

If you look at the sticker on the door jam under "axle" it gives you a letter and you can use that i believe, but since its a 150 i would say its an 8.8 inch ford, thats what i have.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jan-02 AT 03:20 PM (EST)]After 83 they only put the 9 inch rear ends in the F150's with a 351 High Output. I have an 84 with the 9 inch and the 351 HO and 2 86's with 302's which are both the 8.8's. If there are bolts holding on the diff cover then you have the 8.8 if not it is the 9 inch. I am 99% positive it is the 8.8 though.
