Im considering switching to Rotella synthetic(for now). I, of course, want higher mileage OC intervals. I dont fully understand what I should ask for when I get my analysis done. I have always used dino before and changed religiously at 3,000 miles.
Whats a TBN and should I get one done?
When should I send my oil off to get tested if I want to extend the change interval? And how often on the 1st time switch to synthetic?(im getting a fumoto valve to help the sample process)
If yall could just include whatever yall have come across getting oil analyzed. I dont want to screw something up especially with the oil!
take a sample of th edino you have now, and get a baseline, switch to syn, and then take a sample at 5000 miles, they will tell you whetehr or not you need to change it.
TBN is the amount of active additive left in the oil.
JUST REMEMBER THIS, oil is the lifeblood of a PSD. It is used to lubricate as well as hydraulically to intensify the fuel in the injectors. Fresh clean oil in a PSD is always better than high mileage oil.
BTW I change my oil every 6000 miles, unless I tow more than 1000 miles in the oil change interval. If I have towed my camper 1000 miles I will chang it at 3000 miles total.
