is it just me or are these ol' 6.9 simply amazing i mean ive had mine only a month but the low end torque is incredible and these things are like back road monsters lol they take the curves good an pretty much dominate just thought id put my 2 cents in on these trucks!
i love my 6.9 mine s is lift and still runs like a bat out of hell as low end torque is amazing i floored it in frist gear it hoped and them snaped my rear pinon yoke now lets c a gasser do that
mines kind of a dog when it comes to hills, but I'd NEVER get rid of my truck...too much sentimental value (and I only had it for a year and a half!)
This summer, hopefully I'll be able to swap it over to 4x4...I even have a donor waiting at a friends house!-I think that adds about $10,000 worth of sentimental value, don't you think?
lmao!!!! The only place my trucks a dog at is attempting to accelerate fast. Just like every other IDI (all brands-non turbo) it just keeps accelerating, but on its own time table. I reg hit 55+ going up a 2 mile 15% grade not under full acceleration. And my curb weight is 8200#. I also tweaked my IP timing curve to take advantage of the lower end torque, and adjusted the e4od to shift accordingly.
I do like the massive low end torqe to get a load moving, If only it had that through more of the rpm range. turbo helped more in the higher rpm but not much in the low. Has alot more low end grunt than my gasser. If my torque converter would stall lower than 2000- 2500, It would probably be much better. I Probably need a standard tranny to get full benifits, the auto w the converter i think don't distribute the power very well.
The manual trans really does make a difference, haven't run one with anything but 4.10s with the manual, ( my 86 and my dad's 84 2wd) my dad's 84 4x4 is an auto with the 3.54 gearset. I'm considering changing it to a manual since I plan on rebuilding it, and have a complete but well used up donor sitting here. Powertrain wise, it seems to be a decent truck, just not a straight panel on it except the hood, and I probably could find some damage there too... But I wanted a backup parts truck, so I have one...
I have modified my NA 7.3 enough to be absolutly satisfied with its performance. I pulled a 7000 lb loaded trailer over the Canadian rockies, and was still able to pass loaded semi trailers going up the passes.
Per my signature, best performance gains were achieved by exhaust mods, air intake allowing for more fuel, and a multidisc torque converter, BIG-tranny cooler.
Na, nobody cares. Its just the kinda personalities that drive the idis.
We had a kid worling with us this past year that drove an s-10 and his dad was hard core chevy. So naturally we liked to tease him about Chevys even though we drove silverados. Well when I got the F250 and sold the silverado he piped up and said "my daddy says anybody that trades a chevy for a ford is a dang fool". Well needless to say it was on then. Whenever he started getting a little annoying we just started trashin chevys and he would get puffed up and leave the room.
Ill drive anything with wheels on it so if you ever hear me throwin off on any other brand then you know its just for sport.
I was going uphill from a stoplight the other day in third gear, the roads were very slightly damp, I goosed it a bit and it broke the rear tires loose. Sheesh!
