One of the things that bothers me about the Ford hitch is that when I'm hooked up to the trailer, the shaft of the hitch sticks out about 1-2" farther than it did on my 'Burb and consequently it seems to flex more. When I drop the trailer back down after hooking up the Equalizer hitch it really flexes down. I have thought about drilling another hole a bit farther back so that there is more weight taken by the receiver and not the bar..
I have a rusted in hitch and tried like hell to get it out. Cut it off with a torch today hoping I could heat the inside to red and drive a long chisel in on each side but to no avail. So I am off to Ford tomorrow and let then deal with it. I will let you know what the cost ends up being. I am gonna guess 700 or better.

FYI...you have to loosen the fuel tank a bit to allow the receiver to "slip" out...after you cut the shear bolts of course...there was a "How To" on here somewhere if you do a search...

Joe, I think wagners is dealing with a rusted in place drawbar from his description above. I had this happen a few years back on my old chebby 1 ton, it did not want to come out at all! We pulled, beat, torched and cussed at it for a full day before it finally gave up, by then the reciever needed more than a little prep and paint! With this fun time in mind, I never leave a drawbar in the hitch when not in use, besides that I would just walk into it and bust my knee....
I pulled my rear bumper yesterday and started scaping and wire brushing my reciever hoping to have it rustoleum primed and painted this weekend. Gotta pretty her up for our spring trip!
Ah...that makes sense now that I read it again...I obviously must have had too much to drink when I posted (not likely due to the time I posted) or read it quickly
trying to do too much in the morning (likely since I was in LA and it was about 6:30am local time)...
THANKS for clarifying...you are spot on!...sorry for the mis-read on my part.
Snow - how long ago did you do the POR-15 treatment?
my receiver, and frame need some attention this spring and hear all the good things about POR, but want to know how it really holds up after a winter(or two)
The paint in the pic is fresh. But it does hold up very well to rust, I have used it many times. It will fade some from the sun but I don't think that will be much of a problem under the bumper.
good deal, thanks. you do all the extra cleaner steps/products too, or straight to the coating?
I knock off all loose paint and rust, make sure it is down to hard rust. Wire brush and blow with an air hose to make sure everything loose is completely gone then just strait to the por. Do at least 2 coats because the por will soak into any pores and thicker rust.
Make sure you don't get it on your hands or clothes. Pretty much anything the por gets on it won't come off.
