I was checking my oil yesterday, and I noticed about 6 or so inches behind the oil fill cap (on passenger side back going toward the windshield) there was a hole. The hole is probably about 3/4 inches and threaded. I have never noticed this before, but that doesn't really mean much for me.
I just had my truck tuned up about 2 weeks ago, so I am afraid that they either forgot to replace something, or something fell off.
From the pictures I have seen, I am wondering if this is where the PCV valve goes?
I can take a picture tonight, but if anyone knows if there is supposed to be a hole here, please let me know. I'm going back to the mechanic to ask him too.
It shouldn't be an open path to the head and oil in the head. That's a good way to contaminate the oil. I am thinking it is for the PCV, it probably got knocked loose while someone was servicing near it.
I looked again last night, and I did see a hose sitting near the hole. I assume this is the PCV valve. From the bend in the hose, it definitely went into the hole that I saw. I am wondering if I am missing the grommet though. The metal piece at the end of the hose fit in snugly.
I'm wondering if the hole is more ridged than threaded.
