The 1961 F-100 stepside we just bought has a door panel and we've figured out the VIN number, but the color code is not shown. There's a blank where the code should be. What does that mean?
It means you can paint it PINK and get away with it!
Actually, it may have been a special order color. Although usually on the tags that was indicated by a special code - like on my 51 its "SS"
I would venture to say that that is what it is or, they just slipped up and it never got stamped.
There's lots of ways to find out what the original color was. You can look under the windshield rubber, up under the dash, etc. here is a link to a site that has color chips for your year. Maybe you can find something close.
don't forget "autocolorlibrary" you can look for chips there
also....if you have a small-ish part in the original color mots autoparts/paint shops can do a scan & duplicate the color by custom formula.
Thanks for the help. Bought the truck this last summer and finally went to pick it up last week. It's been sitting in a chicken house for the last 12 years. There's a ton of dirt on it and about 3 visible colors on it, I couldn't even start to guess what the original color was. Somebody even painted it with a brush somewhere along the line. Gonna get the wife to look under the dash...she'll like that! Will let you know what we find.
