hello, i 'm putting a single stack on my 94 f-350 7.3 non turbo, i was planning on running a piece of 4 inch flex from a foot off of the Y-pipe up to the bed, and then connecting my 4 inch stack thru the bed. my only question is how do i go from the factory 2.5 OD off the Y-pipe to connect to my 4 inch OD flex pipe? I have checked all the local part stores in my area and exhasut places for reducers of that size and had no luck. any thoughts?
I used to work at an exhaust shop a long time ago... and the only thing I can think of is a couple of reducers... If you take the y-pipe and flex joint to an ehhaust shop they should be able to take some pipe stock and expand it to the size you need... 2.5 to 4'' is too much to expand I'm sure but they should be able to get it done within a couple of pieces, maybe three at the most
you only need 2 adapters.
a 4 inch outer to 3 inch inner reducer, and a 3 inch outer to 2 1/2 inner reducer
put the 2 1/2 on the y pipe, then connect the two 3 inch pipes, and put the flex on the 4 inch side.
Im kinda late since you have already found the answer...but i just did the same thing to my truck a couple days ago. I cut off the exhaust after the factory Y pipe...then ive got 4 inch pipe running under the truck...into 5 inch stacks...no muffler of course. It sounds awesome and a few of my neighbors hate me...but i never really liked those ones anyways...then theres the neighbors who love my truck and came outside to hear it after i got the exhaust done...we get along great.
A better choice is cut the Y pipe and replace the 2.5" pipe with 3" pipe where both banks are running together.
That gets rid of the restriction where the down pipes from the exhaust manifolds come together into a pipe that is to small.
Thats what i was going to do because ive seen others suggest it before. But i had a 088 turbo kit i was going to put on my truck...but i sold the 088 kit and want to find a 093 kit instead. So i didnt want to start customizing the Y pipe when its all going to be gone once i find a turbo kit anyways.
