c6 govener
can the govener on c6 trans be removed with the trans still in the truck? the trans is a rebuild i did in college 4 years ago and cant remember. it wont up shift in drive but will go between 1st and 2nd when done manually.

i belive it can because its just a bolt on really. But your problem is in the valve body i think. when me n my dad rebuilt my brother's c6 and put a shift kit with different springs and a divider plate... wouldnt shift for sh**. same problems your getting. manually it works, automatic selection dosent work at all, shift from 1st to 3rd.
try the valve body for a stuck plunger, could be possible

I looked in the the manual and yes you can. You have to take the driveshaft out, and then take the extension housing off which is the rear casting around the output shaft, and then take the governor loose and slide it off. They say oil will come out, and they talk about lowering the rear of the tranny a little bit, so the floor or the frame might be in the way when you go to slide the rear housing off.

As said above you can get it off.
Just some thought Are you sure the Governor is sticking? Have you checked the vacuum to the modulator valve or the valve it self?
I have had both cause problems before.
