computer programming?
PHP is kinda the "new kid on the block", and so far it's been getting some rave reviews. It's based on the same software core as Sniper. You can get really in depth with the programming, which can be a good thing in the right hands, or a really bad thing in the wrong hands. The cool thing about PHP is that you get a 6 position chip, and you write your programs to the chip. Now you have 6 switch on the fly tunes at your finger tips. For the money, PHP is probably the best value.
SCT has a pretty easy to follow interface, but some people complain that they can't quite tweak the 7.3L as much as they would like using it. It's probably best in the hands of beginners, and those who might otherwise be a danger to themselves. SCT has been around for a while, and has a much broader range of applications. Quite a few Lightning and Mustang owners use SCT.
Sniper has two packages they offer. The first is more basic, and only allows you to do some very minor tuning. The second is much more in depth, similar to the PHP. Quite a few people have had good luck with the Sniper tuning, in the right hands of course.
