I will stick with the short story Yea Right, Got 1986 E350 460 with Air/Smog & EGR system. Had a broken exhust bolt on left side of head, Going to replace head and reinstall headers and remove stock exhaust and i want to leave off Smog and Air Pump and EGR. My question is on the intake do i install the stock gasket and let the exhaust dead head in to the intake or instll a new intake gasket the blocks the return to the intake.
Any ideals on Stock crab or upgrade it.
Well,
__this depends on if you have a stock intake or a custom/after-market one.
If aftermarket one, call manufacture & ask for the recommended gasket for it.
If stock, you can block it with a exhaust "dead-head passage" gasket. (This will provide a better seal than just stopping at intake, with open gasket.)
Use a piece of galvanized tin, in the roofing aisle of your favorite supply store. Glue it in place. If you live in a place that gets COLD in the winter time, I would leave good enough alone, and leave the EGR valve on the engine, just disconnected.
