I am posting this here since I have a F350 6.0 Diesel and want specific information for my truck. I don't like to rely on the dealer to read my trouble codes and fix my truck. Also, I am considering un-plugging my EGR valve since I seem to be replacing it every 20K miles and now it is on my dime.
Here is the question: Does any or do all of the tuner/chip manufacturers products over-ride, or disable the trouble codes that show up without fixing the problem? Like I said, I want to un-plug my EGR, but I'm sure it will throw a code. (I'd try it but my check engine light is already on for the EGR). I would be interested in buying a tuner that has the ability to read the code and then ignore the code and turn off the check engine light so I can drive without that dang light on. More importantly, If the light stays on permanently, then I might miss something else that pops up.
Not all will. IT will take more than a canned tune to turn off the EGR or other emissions equipment. My Sniper Special Forces allows it in my gas software, but I haven't seen the diesel version. SCT might also have the ability to disable emissions.
