Hey everyone...ok i have a couple of melted wires coming off my fuse box goin up to my instrument panel in my 1993 f150. It was like this when i bought the truck. I have reason to believe its causing my transmission to shift very hard (The people that sold me the truck said it has a shift kit in it). My speedometer doesn't read either. Its been sitting on 0 since i bought the thing. I need a schematic of the harness that goes from the fuse box up to the cluster. Your help would be great.
Well for starters, do you have a Chilton Manual, that has the chasis schematics in it including the wire to the powertrain module. Melted wires usually means someone did work they didn't understand, not good, of course now you have the hassel of figuring it out. Can you post a picture of the exact mess? This helps wireheads like me know what's up or screwed up, possibly..... OK cheers, Dave.
I have an aod automatic transmission. I will try to take some pictures of it tomorrow. I'm not sure how many wires are melted...I'm hoping it's just the one...if it is I'm thinking I can just cut it out and splice in a new one.
Ok I'm working on gettin pictures...it's really cramped where the wires are. I've been slowly taking the dash apart. I will post the pictures as soon as I can.
Good, also if you need to, add some light so the picture is well lit. Just a plain worklight or lantern will do. I know if you're behind the fuse plate, it's a big pain in the butt. Remember the one important thing is WHY the wire(s) are melted, have you figured any of that out, or is that fixed? Cheers
well I haven't really figured any of that out yet...they've been like this for about a year now. When I bought the truck they were like that but it was running so I drove it now I've decided to deal with it and one wire finally broke loose and now it won't start. I think it's the electronic engine control fuse. I'm working on gettin a digram but I can't seem to find one. I'll make sure that pictures are visible. Thanks.
