89' Ranger 2.3 L 5 speed.
Hey all, my Ranger keeps acting up on me and i need some help please.
It runs fine when idling and while driving. the only time it dies is when i have been driving for a period of time and push the clutch in to turn on a road or come to a stop. it acts like it is going to idle down to the normal 700 or so rpm range, but then drops off and dies. it does not do it every time, but if i have drove continuous for say more than a mile, then apply the clutch, it dies. if i can tap the gas at this moment, it is fine, but if not it will die. it starts right back up and will idle fine. i am confused
i replaced the fuel filter, but no help. i bought some new plugs and wires but have not replaced yet. you think the plugs will fix this or what? thanks
my be. Ok, before doing something it would be a good idea to pull codes, check fuel pressure, inspect IAC.... Is it EEC-iV controlled truck? There were early rangers with CFI ore with carbutrator. Snapshot of engine compartment may help
Golll-eee Pablo, '89 isn't THAT old! Yeah, 89 is EEC-IV. Ford Ranger/Bronco II EEC-IV Testing
To get the codes without fuss. In bad weather, just use the jumper method. Much easier to transcribe the blinks from driver's seat. Easier to see which pauses are which too esp for 2-digit codes vs 3 digit codes.
Also has MFI injectors so throttle body simply meters air.
Also could be the plugs, when's the last time it's been tuned up? My pinto's use to be bad for that when they needed plugs. You didn't get the mileage out of a set of plugs back then like you do today.
